| The capital of the province of Koh Kong, both
are called after the island Koh Kong (Koh is Khmer for island).
The town is still relatively undeveloped for tourism. The town is
surrounded by lushly forested hills and can be used as a starting point
for some Eco/Environmental Tourism, as most of the province has been
declared a National Park. There is still plenty of natural jungle,
waterfalls and wildlife. It is a relaxed border town for overland travel to Thailand. As is
the case with many border towns, there are some animations at night. The
"red light zone" is located 4 km south east of the traffic circle.

For budget travellers, there is a wide
choice of hotels and guesthouses.
Otto's Restaurant Rooms & Meeting Place
is a good option, not only for affordable rooms but also for safe
and tasty food. The new Casino is at the "Koh Kong International Resort
club" located on the Hat Lek side of the river, some 200 metres
from the Thai border, not in Koh Kong town.
Koh Kong island, off the cost is an undiscovered paradise, though the
government has plans to build the infrastructure to attract
international tourists in the future. |
