Prasat Kravan

This small temple, located east of Angkor Wat and South of Banteay Kdey was built by king Hashavarman I (910-923) in the beginning of the 10th century and dedicated to Vishnu Brahmanism. It may actually have been built by high court officials.

It contains remarkable brick bas-reliefs on its interior walls which stand alone as unique examples in Khmer art. Those in the central tower are the most impressive.

The temple was reconstructed by the French, given new a foundation, interior walls and drain. Some broken bricks were replaced by carefully made reproductions. Those bricks are marked with 'CA'. Those can be seen for instance at both the interior and exterior of the rightmost tower.

Tip:

Try to visit at noon when the sun shines through the top tower.
