The royal palace

Surrounded by a 6 metres high wall, the Royal Palace spreads over 600 square metres. What is left of the it are the foundation and the enclosing walls. No traces are left from the buildings inside the walls because those buildings were made of wood as is customary in Cambodia. The Royal Palace predates Angkor Thom and belonged to the kings of the 10th and first half of the 11th century. The walls of Angkor Thom were later built around it by Jayavarman VII (1181-1219). The structures were remodelled several times under successive monarchs.
