Cambodia still has a problem with intellectual property rights. Most books
sold to tourists come straight from the photo copy shop. There are however
some book shops selling legal publications.
- Monument Books
(H 111 on Norodom Blvd Tel 023-217 617) is the most notable
exception on this: they sell good quality books with the copy rights paid
to the publishers and has a good general selection of international books.
- The Foreign Correspondents Club of Cambodia (FCC, H 363
Sisowath Quay on the corner of St 178) has a small but excellent selection
of books, accentuated on Cambodia and Southeast Asia. Here too, all books
are genuine publisher's editions.
- Mekong Libris (H 12 St 13 in front of the GPO - Tel
023-722 751) has a small selection of English books and is more geared to
the French public with a vast range of academic titles on Southeast Asia
and Cambodia and a wide variety of French magazines. Part of the shop is
set aside for Cambodian handicrafts.
- Carnets d'Asie (French Cultural Centre, H 218 St 184
Tel 012-799 959) sells a wide range of French magazines and books. It
has an remarkable selection of books on Cambodian culture and history.
