it is the centre of a huge traffic roundabout. This monument was erected in 1958 to commemorate the independence from
French rule, which the country gained in 1953. |
The monument also serves to honour Cambodia's war dead. It is the site
of special services on days like Independence day and Constitution day
when wreaths are laid for Cambodian war heroes. |
