| Koki Beach in Kien Svay, 12 km east of
Phnom Penh on National Road Nr 1, is a cool destination for
weekends and public holidays . Cambodian people go retreat at this
beach on Tonle Wat Krauw, an offshoot of the Chaktomuk river, and rent one of the thatched huts on stilts to eat
their pick-nick and chill out for the hottest period of the day.
Views on the lake and fresh air are the main attractions.
The
nearby pagoda was built during the
Sangkum Reastr Niyum period. Besides the pagoda is the
Sala Chan, which existed before the pagoda was built. Actors and
actresses receive training here to perform at the Cambodian theatre
called Lakhon Po Srey. There is only one such theatre in Cambodia.
The theatre performs every religious holiday. |

Boat trips on the river can be made for
7,000 Riel ($1.75) per hour.
Local vendors sell grilled fish, chicken and other food stuff
that will make for a delightful picnic at the riverside. Make sure
you bargain the price before ordering the food, lest you be
seriously overcharged
Aside
from national holidays, the place is pretty deserted during the week. |
