Born in Kandal province, Vanney followed
primary and secondary school in Khsach Kandal district. After his formal
education, he studied English in a private school and came to Phnom Penh
for further education.
At the Cambodian Institute for Development and Human rights (CIDH) he studied part-time until he received the High Diploma of Accounting and followed courses in finance, computer skills and marketing. There he was an excellent student of Marc Vanhemelryck, the manager of Taxi Vantha, who taught a course of Business Concepts in English. When a year later Taxi Vantha needed a new dispatcher, the manager hired Vanney for his first real job. After some time, he became a driver for the company, a job he likes very much because it gives him a chance to communicate with foreigners, to improve his English and to enlarge his understanding of other cultures.
