Photo Sin Sareth South Korean President HE Roh Moo-hyun paid a courtesy call on acting Head of State Samdech Chea Sim in Phnom Penh on November 20 following an arrival for a top-level state visit to Cambodia. After the courtesy visit, HE Roh Moo-hyun held a meeting with Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen at the council of Minister in Phnom Penh. Earlier, South Korean President HE Roh Moo-hyun, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Sok An and Deputy Prime Minister Tea Banh, laid a wreath at Independence Monument In the afternoon, the South Korean president will grant an audience to National Assembly President Samdech Heng Samrin at the Inter-continental Hotel in Phnom Penh and meet with Korean business community in Cambodia at the Phnom Penh hotel. South Korean President HE Roh Moo-hyun arrived in Phnom Penh on November 19 for the top-level state visit to Cambodia at the invitation of His Majesty King Norodom Sihamoni. | He was welcomed at International Phnom Penh airport on his arrival by acting Head of State Samdech Chea Sim, acting Senate President Prince Sisowath Chivoan Monirak, second National Assembly President Nguon Nhil, and senate and national assembly members; and high-ranking government officials. Foreign Ambassadors to Cambodia were also on hand. The visit by South Korean president to Cambodia is made at coinciding with the 10th anniversary of diplomatic relationship between Cambodia and South Korean as well as promoting the relationship and cooperation in all fields between the two nations, said Information Minister Khieu Kanharith, also government spokesman. South Korean president will make a tour of Siemreap province, where he will inaugurate the Angor-Gyeongju World Expo 2006, which will officially open inside Angkor Archaeological Park on 21 November. As scheduled, HE Roh Moo-hyun is expected to meet with Prime Minister Samdech Hun Sen and sign agreements to waive visa requirements for diplomats and government officials from both countries, allow more Cambodians to work in South Korea, and increase aid for information technology projects in Cambodia. It is noted that since the two countries re-established diplomatic relations in 1997, the republic of Korea has provided nearly 18 million US dollars as grant and more than 91 million US dollars in loan for the national development in Cambodia.--AKP |
