Cambodian National Assembly ratified two UN conventions on suppression of terrorist activities and prevention of the illegal use and trafficking of plastic explosives, local media reported on Friday. The approved treaties will allow Cambodia to increase international cooperation to combat terrorism and receive updated information about illegal activities.
Cambodia is drafting the counter-terrorism law with the help of international community and hopes to have it in place before end of 2005. Cambodia has an anti-terrorism law since 1992, but this law is considered unsatisfactory as it consists only of four articles. The new law will comply with international standards.
